MEMBRANA

It consists of the graphic designer Marina Oruê and the photographer Douglas Garcia. Together, they combine creation, research and editing processes, often starting from visual fragments of their surroundings. Their activities are based on two complementary axes.

On one side, there is Edições Membrana, conceived in 2015 as an independent publishing house. Its zines, books and posters explore strategies such as observation, subtraction and recombination of elements in order to investigate how small everyday actions respond to patterns of complex information systems. It also elaborates and distributes projects by other authors, stimulating exchanges and disseminating significant productions.

In both cases, the emphasis on materiality presents itself as a way of forming a collection of traces, documents of moments experienced in an increasingly volatile daily life.

On the other side, there is Estúdio Membrana, which proposes individualized interlocutions in the field of art and culture since 2017. As with its own creations, different processes and tools – such as photography, image editing, video capture, graphic design – are mobilized to meet the unique needs of each project.
